Bernard is a licensed clinical social worker in Virginia (LCSW), Maryland (LCSW-C), and the District of Columbia (LICSW). He obtained his Bachelors in Science degree in human ecology with emphasis on human development from The Ohio State University and master’s degree in social work from San Jose State University. In addition, he completed a post master’s fellowship in mental health at Stanford University.
As a provider, Bernard utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and acceptance and commitment therapy practices when working with clients. He has a He treats all of his clients as individuals and does not use a cookie-cutter approach to practice. His therapeutic approach is working as a team between himself and his clients. He has Art and Science of Clinical Hypnosis from American hypnosis Training Academy and is National Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. Bernard's approach to clinical hypnotherapy is to use it as companion to treatment of anxiety. (Please note that he does not use hypnotherapy to treat other mental health concerns.)
Bernard has a specialization in working with LGBTQI populations and people of diverse backgrounds. He works with clients on developing skills in coping with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, and is experienced with working with sex health and sexuality. Bernard is a think-outside-of-the-box provider who will often challenge his clients to try approaches that may be outside of their comfort zone but are therapeutic.
