Doctorate in Clinical Psychology
Dr. Alesi sees therapy as a process to foster self-awareness, facilitate personal growth, and to help individuals identify and achieve their goals. This results in her striving to create a safe and non-judgmental atmosphere for individuals to promote healing. Dr. Alesi adopts a social justice approach to psychology as she believes that the theories and practice of psychology are not isolated from the larger sociocultural influence of our society.
Dr. Alesi works with children, adolescents, and adults with a broad range of psychological and medical disorders. She provides individual, couples, family, and group therapy. Her experience includes treating depression, mood disorders, anxiety-related disorders, trauma, self-esteem, sexuality and/or gender identity, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, relationship problems, personality disorders, self-harm behaviors, stress management, and general difficulty coping with change.
Dr. Alesi is trained in cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, and psychodynamic theory and therapy, as well as family and couples therapy. Her clinical orientation consists of an integrative model, in which empirically supported interventions are assimilated to take into account the individual’s strengths and challenges. In addition, her treatment approach is collaborative, integrating resources to provide appropriate and culturally sensitive treatment to diverse populations. Thus each individual has a uniquely personalized therapy experience.
Dr. Alesi had a prior career in policy and international relations. During her doctoral program, she has received clinical training in outpatient medical settings, private practice, an inpatient hospital, and a community mental health clinic. Dr. Alesi is also an Adjunct Professor at the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University.
