Kirsten Madsen, LPC, is a licensed professional counselor. She has earned a MA in Denmark in clinical psychology and she has been practicing in the field for 17 years. In addition to graduate studies, Kirsten has completed continuing education programs at the Washington School of Psychiatry.
Kirsten's primary orientation is psycho dynamic with the focus on unconscious processes as they are manifested in a person's present behavior. She also offers cognitive behavioral therapy.
Her areas of expertise include stress at work, depression, anxiety, addiction, grief and loss, self-esteem, trauma, relationship issues and personal growth.
Kirsten sees adults and young adults, both straight and LGBTQ. She works with individuals, couples and groups. She has lived in East Africa for 6 years and has learned to value ethnic and cultural diversity.
Her philosophy is based on the premise that each individual has the potential to become authentic and whole, able to fully engage and participate in life without being hampered by painful emotions and maladaptive ways of relating and behaving.
