Dr. Melvin Lee Phillips Jr, Ed.D
Dr. Melvin Lee Phillips Jr, Ed.D, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) in the state of Virginia, and a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Washington, DC. He is also a Licensed Certified Social Worker at the clinical level (LCSW-C) in the state of Maryland.
Dr. Phillips has worked in several mental health and substance abuse treatment settings including outpatient and inpatient settings as well as private practice for the past 10 years. He holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D) degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Behavioral Health from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. In addition, Dr. Phillips holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Norfolk State University and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Communication with a minor in Theatre Arts and Psychology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Dr. Phillips is also an adjunct professor in the Master of Social Work Program with the School of Social Work at Western New Mexico University. Dr. Phillips provides clinical supervision for clinical social work license requirements.
Dr. Phillips is knowledgeable in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, stress, life transition issues, co-occurring disorders, chronic pain & illness, hoarding disorder, personality disorders, substance use disorders, sexual health & functioning, and LGBTQIA concerns. Dr. Phillips uses a dynamic approach based primarily on the Cognitive Behavioral perspective as well as utilizing Client-Centered and Mindfulness perspectives that offers not only symptom relief, but also a means to improve emotional connections to the individual and others. Dr. Phillips offers a safe non-judgmental sex positive environment. Clients who are in non-monogamous, swingers, polyamorous, and/or kink relationships are welcomed.
