Groups Led By Dr. Efanov
Dr. Simona Efanov is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in treating individuals with anxiety, depression, difficulties with life transitions, relationship difficulties, eating disorders, and PTSD/trauma related disorders. Dr. Efanov has a Level 2 Gottman Couples Therapy Certification, and she adopts this approach in her work with couples. Dr. Efanov works with individuals with chronic stress, history of trauma, ADHD, and adjustment to life changes. She focused on bridging the gab between past challenges with current sources of strength and resilience. She has certifications in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT); she can also provides DBT Skills Training, therapy focusing on Inner Child work and ACA work.
Dr. Efanov has gained experience working in a variety of settings, including inpatient hospitals, eating disorder specialized centers, private practice, and integrated medical care clinics. Dr. Efanov utilizes a combination of psychodynamic treatment methods and she incorporates aspects of cognitive-behavioral therapy. She is adopting her treatment to each individual unique sets of needs and with evidence-based treatments.
Prior to moving to the Washington, DC area, Dr. Efanov worked in research settings in centers affiliated with McGill University. She evaluated adults with eating disorders at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. She actively participated in conducting clinical research with labs at McGill University and the Montreal Neurological Institute, where she looked at the effects of chronic stress on personality, brain circuitry, and mood. Her research contributions yielded numerous scientific publications and conference presentations in the areas of eating disorders, traumatic brain injury and on the neuroendocrine effects of stress on psychological well-being.
Dr. Efanov continues to integrate her knowledge of neuroscience and biopsychosocial factors in her clinical work. Dr. Efanov is also an Adjunct Professor at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Washington DC Campus, where she teaches Cognitive & Intellectual Assessments, Objective Assessment, Professional Ethics and Conduct, Introduction to Neuropsychology, Psychopharmacology and Neurophysiology (Human Bases of Brain and Behavior) to graduate students.
At CCCC, Dr. Efanov is the director of psychology training and the clinical supervisor of pre-doctoral interns, doctoral externs and post-doctoral fellows who are completing APA requirements to become psychologists. Dr. Efanov also provides neuropsychological testing, psychoeducational testing, adoption selection testing and fitness for duty testing.
