Judith Heffner LCSW, LICSW, LCSW-C, CEAP has been a therapist for more than 15 years. Judy has years of private practice experience with children, adults, elderly adults, and families. She addresses issues including anxiety, depression, relationships, parenting skills and concerns, school problems, learning differences and the impact of chronic illness. Her other experiences have included treating children under 12 and their families in an inpatient unit, where her work focused on issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, school problems, and parenting skills and concerns. She also worked in a social service agency treating children and adults, older adults and young adults on the autism spectrum with similar issues.
Judy has a number of volunteer experiences that are also close to her heart. She has been a Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in the Alexandria court system, and has worked for the Heart Gallery as a volunteer photographer to make professional portraits of children in foster care to facilitate their adoption into permanent homes. She is also Vice-Chair of the Alexandria, Virginia Community Services Board, which oversees the use of public funds to provide mental health, intellectual disability and substance use services through the Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services.
Judy uses several modalities in her work, and believes in the use of humor when appropriate. She believes that everyone has the capacity to change in a way that will improve their life, and works to create a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients to help make that possible. When not at work, Judy enjoys walking, cycling, swimming, reading and learning to play the piano.
Judy is licensed to see clients in Virginia, and also in both Maryland and DC through telehealth.
