About the Group

This group is intended for people in their late 20s to early 40s who grew up in families where their needs were not met as children due to family problems such substance abuse, mental illness, child abuse or neglect and other stressors that you might not think constitute “Trauma.” Whatever was happening in your home, the grownups did not know how to cope well with these problems and so they couldn’t help you.

This isn’t blaming. It’s objectively true. This is not a trauma recovery group. We won’t be unpacking deep painful things here. This group is focused on learning how what happened when we were kids still impacts our thinking and behavior now.  You may think that what happened in the past should stay in the past or has had no lasting impact on you. Unfortunately, for some people, those effects linger in ways that affect our self-esteem, our relationships and boundaries once we are adults.

You might benefit from this group if you recognize patterns such as these: difficulty expressing and feeling your emotions, are a caretaker or people pleaser or put other people’s feelings and needs ahead of yours—or if you feel guilty if you do. You may have low self-esteem, cringe when someone gives you a compliment; feel like you don’t know yourself or what’s important to you; have a hard time speaking up or making friends or have difficulty sustaining romantic relationships. You might not feel “good enough” or “too much” or that there’s something “wrong” with you.  This group will give you a safe space to recognize that you are not the only one who feels this way. You will learn how your reactions are normal for abnormal experiences and to try out new ways of interacting with others to help build your sense of self and inner trust.

This group meets every other Tuesday (beginning Sept 9th, 2025) from 7PM-8:15PM.  Group members are expected to make a six-month commitment to attending the group.

Meetings are Virtual.

How to Join:

To join this group, Gina will first conduct an individual intake session.  This session will be billed to insurance or at a self pay rate.  Please reference the list of accepted insurances.
